Benidorm’s Beach Item Reuse Points project has been recognised by the Green City Accord as a good practice in sustainability and circular economy.
Benidorm has been highlighted in the Green City Accord 2020-2025 report for its Beach Item Reuse Points project, an initiative that promotes waste reduction and responsible use of resources in one of the city’s most visited spaces: its beaches.
Launched in June 2024, the project allows beachgoers to leave items they no longer need, such as air mattresses, beach loungers, parasols, floats or buckets, so that other people can collect and reuse them free of charge.
The initiative is based on the principles of the circular economy and helps reduce the environmental footprint of tourism, especially during the summer months, when Benidorm’s beaches welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors.
Items in good condition can enjoy a second life through these reuse points. Objects that cannot be reused are taken for appropriate treatment, reinforcing the philosophy of the three Rs: reduce, reuse and recycle.
With this recognition, Benidorm strengthens its commitment to a more sustainable, accessible and environmentally friendly tourism model, promoting practical actions that help protect its beaches and improve the experience of everyone who enjoys them.
