Mal Pas Snorkelling Route

Mal Pas Cove: A Submarine Paradise in the Heart of Benidorm

The small Mal Pas Cove is a surprising place because, right in the heart of Benidorm, next to the port and between the vast Levante and Poniente beaches, we find such rich and varied underwater landscapes that create a truly fascinating journey. 🏖️

🏞️ A Unique Underwater Journey

Following the wall of Punta Canfali, where the famous viewpoint known as the Balcón del Mediterráneo stands, we discover, as soon as we dive in, a whitish seafloor due to the extensive sandy bottom. This sandy ground, which is next to the wall, gives way to rocks, initially as a gentle slope, and then increasingly covered by rocks, some of them large, that pile up randomly, creating numerous gaps that host a surprising biodiversity. 🐟

🐠 Marine Life at the Cove

Around the wall, we can find serranos, tordos, and clouds of castanuelas. In the transition to the sand, we see mabras and obladas, while at deeper, softer bottoms, almost invisible due to their sandy camouflage, we can find pelayas, small flounders, and red mullets. 🌊

It won’t be unusual, especially at dawn or dusk, to encounter a ray or even a torpedo ray or trembler. 🌅

🌊 Comfortable and Fascinating Exploration

As we approach the point, the depth increases slightly, although it never exceeds -5 meters, making it very comfortable to explore these waters. 🏊‍♂️

Almost at the turn, we’ll see a small point of land protruding from the water. This is the tip of a submerged peak shaped like a cone, and in the area closest to the shore, it has a passage of just over -1 meter deep. If the sea is calm, we can cross it and start heading back, this time staying closer to the mountain slopes, which will be spectacularly covered in brown and reddish algae. 🌿
