Kalinga

Kalinga comes from Cuba and studied trumpet professionally for 10 years. After that he started playing in many different bands until he was contacted to collaborate with the group New Boys in 2005, and because he liked the group and its music so much, he decided to stay with them and be a member of the band. They got a contract to move over to Sweden and perform in a club called Cuba Café, and then moved over to Spain to continue pursuing their music career. They got the chance to audition for the Spanish version of The X Factor, and there they met a guy that suggested they move over to Benidorm so they could perform on a regular basis.

So since 2009, Kalinga lives in Benidorm and dedicates his time to his performances with New Boys, and has recently incorporated a tribute act to UB40 that he does with the group Cujam. This show is performed by Kalinga and two other guys, at the request of Jokers, with the aim of offering a reggae show. They came up with the name of Cujam by combining Cuba and Jamaica, the artists’ home countries. They particularly thought of Kalinga to become a part of the group because he can play the trumpet and many other instruments, and UB40 is a band that incorporates numerous instruments to their shows. What Kalinga most enjoys about performing is being on stage and connecting with the audience. He can tell when a show reaches its peak and the audience is fully engaged in the performance, and even though it’s something difficult to achieve, he loves when it happens.
