TUI leads the use of renewable HVO fuel in transfers from Benidorm

Benidorm witnessed a significant step forward in sustainability within the tourism sector. TUI selected Benidorm as the base to carry out the first transfer to Alicante-Elche Airport using a bus powered by HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil), a renewable fuel that reduces emissions by up to 90% compared to traditional fossil diesel. This initiative marked an important milestone for the company, which is exploring new ways to minimize its carbon footprint and improve the sustainability of its operations globally.

This first sustainable service departed at 09:05 from the Flamingo Oasis Hotel, heading to the airport, where Ian Livesey, Head of Region at TUI, gave a brief speech to inform travelers about this innovative initiative. During the event, the importance of this step towards more environmentally friendly transportation was explained, highlighting the benefits of this renewable fuel in reducing emissions during tourist travel, creating a positive impact both locally and globally.

HVO, or renewable diesel, is produced from organic waste such as used oils and fats, making it a more eco-friendly alternative for tourist transportation. By using recycled materials, HVO significantly contributes to the circular economy, utilizing waste that would otherwise be discarded. This project, which began in Benidorm, is the first of its kind for the company globally, demonstrating Benidorm's ability to be a laboratory for innovation in sustainable tourism.

Benidorm, as a pioneering destination in sustainability, continues to strengthen its commitment to the environment and innovation, positioning itself at the forefront of initiatives that reduce the environmental impact of the tourism industry. In addition to improving air quality and reducing the carbon footprint, this initiative also highlights Benidorm's key role as a leader in implementing green solutions in the tourism sector. With projects like this, Benidorm continues to establish itself as a destination that not only offers unforgettable experiences to its visitors but is also committed to the future of the planet and sustainability in all its forms.
