Benidorm has managed to balance its urban development with a solid commitment to the conservation of the natural environment. Despite being a popular tourist destination, 61% of its territory has been protected since 1956, with multiple green areas and natural spaces that offer refuge to biodiversity and promote more sustainable tourism.
In recent years, the municipality has doubled its surface area of urban green spaces, exceeding 2 million m² of parks and gardens. These efforts are part of the 'Green and Water' project, an ecological regeneration initiative that aims to connect the city with its natural environment through ecological corridors and urban reforestation.
