Benidorm is synonymous with high-quality beaches, with a continuous commitment to the sustainable management of its environment. Through a rigorous system of control and maintenance, the city ensures the cleanliness and safety of the water, sand, and foot showers, offering residents and visitors an optimal beach experience.
Since 1985, Benidorm has had a Municipal Laboratory dedicated to analysing water and sand, ensuring their quality throughout the year. This monitoring is carried out through regular sampling at points established by the Valencian Regional Government:
📌 Sampling frequency: weekly in summer and fortnightly for the rest of the year.
📌 Monitored parameters: water quality, sand hygiene, and foot shower operation.
📌 Applied technology: sensors in foot showers to optimise water use and ensure efficiency.

Benidorm’s comprehensive beach cleaning and maintenance service operates 365 days a year, ensuring that beaches remain in optimal condition:
🗑️ Waste collection: 540 tonnes annually.
🛠️ Manual cleaning: from 07:00 to 13:30.
🚜 Mechanical cleaning: using sand-sifting machines at night, from 22:30 to 04:50.
Benidorm applies an intelligent management model for its beaches, focusing on efficiency and reducing environmental impact. One example is the monitoring of Posidonia oceanica, a crucial underwater plant for the marine ecosystem, whose conservation is supervised through the POSIMED project by the Institute of Coastal Ecology.
