Benidorm continues to strengthen its commitment to sustainability and recycling, improving its selective waste collection figures in 2024. The city has recorded a significant increase in paper-cardboard and container recycling, consolidating its reputation as a responsible tourism destination.
Paper-cardboard recycling has seen a notable 9.83% increase compared to 2023, reaching a total of 1,649,460 kilos collected. August was the best month, with 198,520 kilos recycled, while January had the lowest figure with 101,520 kilos.
Similarly, container collection has increased by 4.89% compared to 2023, totaling 872,840 kilos. Once again, August recorded the highest recycling numbers (100,960 kilos), while December had the lowest amount with 58,740 kilos.
Regarding glass recycling, although there has been a slight decrease compared to 2023, Benidorm continues to significantly exceed the national average. In 2024, the city collected 3,388,040 kilos of glass, with June being the top month (410,790 kilos) and January registering the lowest amount (248,460 kilos). Despite the slight decline, Benidorm maintains an impressive glass recycling rate of over 50 kilos per person per year, compared to the national average of 19.2 kilos.
These figures highlight the increasing commitment of residents, tourists, and businesses to waste separation and recycling, making Benidorm a more sustainable destination.
