Benidorm leads the way in Europe with the first urban air taxi flight
The demonstration, held over Poniente and Levante beaches, was coordinated by the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) as part of the European U-ELCOME project.
Benidorm has hosted Europe’s first simultaneous flight of an air taxi and drones in a real urban environment, marking a milestone in technological innovation and urban air mobility.
During the event, an EH216-S air taxi from EHang, capable of carrying two passengers, flew alongside 12 drones that simulated cargo transport, surveillance, and rescue operations. All flights were monitored through automated digital platforms, ensuring flight safety and operational efficiency.
Benidorm, a leader in urban air mobility
Benidorm was selected as one of the first European cities to conduct these tests due to its unique urban environment, characterized by a high concentration of skyscrapers. The city has been using drones since 2016 as part of its local police operations and now takes a further step by hosting Europe’s first air taxi test flight.
This breakthrough is a key step towards Urban Air Mobility (UAM), aiming to develop the necessary technology, regulations, and infrastructure to make these flights a reality in the coming years.
