Benidorm takes another step forward in tourism innovation with the launch of "Xato Cube", the first smart space that monitors tourist flow and activity in real time while showcasing the city’s full offering through an AI-powered robot. This pilot initiative, driven by Restaurante El Xato and Inteligencia Turística, is designed to attract MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions), gastronomic, and blue tourism to the Marina Baixa region.
Located at the Benidorm Town Hall until mid-July, the Smart Cube features immersive technologies and a multilingual AI agent that recommends personalized experiences based on each visitor’s profile and preferences. The cube will host guided visits and boot camps for both tourists and tourism professionals to demonstrate its potential and data-sharing capabilities.
Benidorm closed 2024 with over 3,000 hotel beds dedicated to MICE and saw a more than 30% rise in events and meetings. Gastronomy also gained ground, now accounting for 30% of total visitor spending. With "Xato Cube", Benidorm continues positioning itself as a leading destination for smart, sustainable, and experiential tourism.
Following its stay in Benidorm, the Cube will move to La Nucía and later to Colombia, where collaborations with local universities are already underway to replicate the concept.
The Smart Cube also acts as a real-time data-sharing hub – the first of its kind in Spain – enabling tourists, residents, businesses, and authorities to access key information interactively. With immersive visual platforms and cutting-edge technology inside a fully accessible structure adorned with a panoramic image of Benidorm, this initiative reinforces the city’s role as a benchmark for digital, sustainable tourism.
