The Best Viewpoints in Benidorm

Where can you find the best panoramic views of Benidorm and the Mediterranean Sea?

From the historic Mirador del Castillo (La Replaçeta del Castell) — once a medieval fortress — to the heritage site of Tossal de la Cala, and from the religious and touristic landmark of La Cruz to the modern panoramic terraces of Sierra Cortina, Benidorm offers a variety of viewpoints blending history, nature and culture. Whether you're a visitor, a photographer, or simply a seeker of unique experiences, there’s a view waiting for you.

1. La Replaçeta del Castell (Mirador del Castillo / Balcón del Mediterráneo)

History:
Built as a defensive fortress to protect the small village founded in 1325, the castle suffered a pirate attack in 1388 and was left largely in ruins. From the 14th to the 17th century, it served as a stronghold against Berber invasions. Today, its remains are integrated into the urban viewpoint, including four cannons that recall its military past.

Views:

  • To the east: Levante Beach, Benidorm's modern skyline and the Rincón de Loix.

  • To the west: Poniente Beach, the marina, and Sierra Cortina in the distance.

  • Out to sea: Benidorm Island rising from the deep blue Mediterranean.

Perfect if you're looking for…
✅ A mix of cityscape and seascape views
✅ Sunset over the harbour
✅ Easy access from the Old Town

2. La Cruz

History:
Installed in December 1961 by Catholic friars as an act of atonement for the rise of bikinis and “immorality,” the cross was carried in procession from the Church of San Jaime and Santa Ana on what became known as the “Day of Forgiveness.” After being destroyed by a storm in 1975, it was rebuilt using railway sleepers and is now a well-known illuminated landmark.

Views:

  • 180° panorama of Benidorm’s skyline, from the sea to the inland mountains.

  • A single sweeping view of both Levante and Poniente beaches.

  • On clear days, you can see all the way from Serra Gelada to Puig Campana.

Perfect if you're looking for…
✅ The best spot for panoramic photography
✅ Sunset views as the city lights come on
✅ A gentle hike with spectacular rewards

3. Tossal de la Cala

History:
Rising 80–103 metres above sea level, the hilltop features an archaeological site with Iberian (Bronze and early Iberian) remains and a Roman castellum built around 77 BC by General Quintus Sertorius as a naval lookout. First excavated in 1944, the site was partially damaged during the 1960s when the road and viewpoint were constructed, but has since been restored and interpreted for visitors since 2010.

Views:

  • Low, tranquil views over Poniente Beach and Cala de Finestrat.

  • Sierra Cortina and Puig Campana framing the inland horizon.

  • A peaceful, green setting far from the crowds.

Perfect if you're looking for…
✅ A connection with history and nature
✅ Peaceful photography at sunrise
✅ A lesser-known, quieter viewpoint

4. Sierra Cortina

History:
Though much more recent in origin, this residential area was strategically developed on hilltops overlooking Benidorm and the coast. It may lack ancient roots, but its green spaces and modern design include purpose-built panoramic terraces.

Views:

  • Elevated, direct views of Benidorm’s skyline.

  • Distant views of Poniente Beach and the island.

  • A landscape combining modern planning with natural surroundings.
