Benidorm Launches 1.9 Million Euro Green Investment to Enhance Urban Nature

Benidorm Launches 1.9 Million Euro Green Investment to Enhance Urban Nature

Benidorm is set to boost its green spaces and environmental awareness with a comprehensive project investing nearly 1.9 million euros in 13 nature-based initiatives, co-funded by the Fundación Biodiversidad.

Among the key actions, visitors and residents will soon see new trees planted across neighborhoods such as Rincón de Loix, Levante, Centro, and Foietes. Two brand-new microparks will be created in the areas of Avenidas de Murcia, Cuenca, and Almería—ideal spots for peaceful breaks amidst urban life.

The plan also includes sustainable and inclusive schoolyards, environmental education campaigns, and an overarching strategy to guide Benidorm toward a greener, more resilient future. Other initiatives include communication and community participation programs, plus a strategy for measuring progress in renaturalization efforts.

In total, 90% of the 1.9 million euro budget is supported by the Fundación Biodiversidad, under Spain’s national initiative to make cities more nature-friendly. Some projects are already underway, such as tree planting and planning for the microparks.

Although certain planned projects like the peri-urban ecological restoration or the revival of blue spaces have been paused, the city has restructured its efforts to ensure the most impactful and feasible actions are prioritized by the end-of-year funding deadline.
