This Sunday, local windsurfer Darío Quesada will embark on an extraordinary challenge: covering the 150 kilometers (83 nautical miles) from Benidorm to Ibiza on a windsurf board without making any stops. The initiative aims to raise funds and awareness for breast and gynecological cancer through the support of Anémona Marina Baixa, a local support group for women affected by these conditions.
The challenge, dubbed “Windsurfer Against Cancer”, will begin at 7:30 AM from Benidorm. Quesada will be accompanied by two support boats and a 15-person team, including medical staff and members of Anémona, as he sails toward the port of San Antonio in Ibiza. The journey could take around 15 hours, with the final stretch expected to continue into the night.
To complete the crossing, Quesada will use a smaller-than-usual windsurfer sail and carry backup sails in case of strong winds, along with LED lighting for night navigation. His goal is not just athletic, but deeply personal: a dream 40 years in the making, now dedicated to supporting Anémona’s ongoing fight against cancer.
How to support: Donations can still be made to Anémona via bank transfer, Bizum using the challenge’s phone number, or directly at Anémona’s headquarters — just indicate it's for "Darío Quesada's crossing."
This unique sporting feat not only raises essential funds but also delivers a powerful message of resilience, hope, and community spirit — making it a moving experience for locals and visitors alike.
