Benidorm takes a decisive step in sustainability with the Biosphere Certification, awarded by the Responsible Tourism Institute. This certification evaluates the sustainability of tourist destinations and ensures that implemented projects promote continuous improvement in the management of resources and tourist services.
The initiative is part of the ‘Verde Benidorm’ Destination Tourism Sustainability Plan (PSTD), financed with Next Generation funds, and includes three main phases:
Diagnosis and Monitoring Platform: Assessing the destination’s sustainability, providing tools for the local tourism industry, and offering online guidance.
External Evaluation: Audit by tourism sustainability and SDG experts to verify compliance with Biosphere objectives.
Continuous Improvement: Annual review of progress and tailored consultancy for local businesses.
This project allows optimization of the tourism sustainability strategy, reinforcing the destination’s commitment to sustainability in its broadest sense and ensuring continuous improvement of services and visitor and resident experiences.
The project involves an investment of €44,406.34 and is one of 16 measures included in the PSTD ‘Verde Benidorm’, with a total budget of €5.5 million.
