Benidorm defends its candidacy for the European Green Leaf 2027 in Lithuania

Benidorm has presented its candidacy as a finalist for the European Green Leaf 2027 in Vilnius, Lithuania, a prestigious award from the European Commission that recognizes small cities for their commitment to sustainability and the environment. The city stands out for its sustainable tourism model, efficient resource management, and climate change adaptation strategies.

During the presentation, Benidorm received high praise for its air quality, an 18% reduction in water consumption, and a 36% water reuse rate. Additionally, its efforts towards circular economy, biodiversity improvement, and green spaces were highlighted.

Benidorm competes alongside Assen (Netherlands), Saint-Quentin (France), and Siena (Italy) for this prestigious recognition, which includes a €200,000 prize to support sustainable activities throughout the designated year.

The process will continue with presentations and working meetings, culminating in the awards gala, which will be held on October 2nd at the National Art Gallery in Vilnius. Benidorm will broadcast the event live from the Centre Municipal El Torrejó for interested parties to follow the jury’s verdict.
