Benidorm unveils high-rise renovation with photovoltaic glass: sustainable innovation on the seafront

Benidorm leads the way in Europe with the renovation of two 17-storey residential towers using vertical photovoltaic glass on ventilated façades. This groundbreaking upgrade turns the buildings into clean energy generators, blending sustainability and architecture within the city’s iconic skyline.

With around 1,200 square metres of photovoltaic glass installed, the façades are expected to produce close to 190,000 kilowatt-hours annually. This will reduce the energy consumption of the residences by approximately 35 % and prevent over 50 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. The ventilated façade also enhances insulation and indoor comfort, contributing to a more efficient and pleasant urban environment.

The renovation involved expert technical teams and public funding, with a total investment exceeding 1.9 million euros as part of a broader energy modernization strategy.

This project reinforces Benidorm’s reputation as an innovative tourism destination where architecture and sustainability complement the Mediterranean lifestyle, the sea, and leisure. Visitors can admire these renovated towers as a symbol of a forward-looking city embracing environmental responsibility.
