Benidorm begins works on recycled‑water network for the Poniente area

Benidorm launches phase 1 of a new recycled‑water network in the Poniente area, designed to irrigate green spaces and reduce potable water use.

The works start on Monday 17 November 2025, in the Barranco Rajarell sector near Playa de Poniente, and will last approximately three months. The plan includes installing around 760 metres of ductile iron pipe and connecting the network to three nearby urbanisations and municipal systems.

This infrastructure will cover an area with over 6,000 homes, 156,000 m² of public gardens and 127,000 m² of private green areas. The water will come from Benidorm’s local treatment plant, undergoing secondary and tertiary treatment and disinfection before use.

As work takes place near the Poniente promenade cycle lane, pedestrian and bike traffic may be slightly affected. The project is part of Benidorm’s sustainable tourism development plan, supported by European Next Generation EU funding.

This effort enhances the environmental quality of the Poniente zone, making it greener and more resource‑efficient for residents and visitors alike.
