I'll tell you about a book in an hour: on literature and cities

A unique series of literary sessions at Benidorm’s Central Library.

Until May 2026, Benidorm’s Central Library hosts "Let Me Tell You a Book in One Hour: Literature and Cities", a cultural series designed for book lovers and the curious alike. Each month, the focus is on one renowned book linked to a famous city, providing a one-hour introduction to its plot, context, and significance.

The series features the works:

  • 26 January - 'Caperucita en Manhattan' (“Little Red Riding Hood in Manhattan”) by Carmen Martín Gaite, taught by Marta Quesada, PhD and professor of literature.
  • 23 February - 'La ciudad de los prodigios' (“The City of Marvels”) by Eduardo Mendoza, taught by Moisés Real, professor of literature.
  • 23 March - 'La Colmena' (“The Beehive”) by Camilo José Cela, taught by Pilar Blanco, poet and professor of literature.
  • 27 April - 'La ciudad de las damas' (“The City of Ladies”) by Cristina de Pizán, taught by Marisa Zaragoza, professor of philosophy.
  • 25 May - 'Las ciudades invisibles' (“Invisible Cities”) by Italo Calvino, taught by Ascensión Martínez, professor of philosophy and president of the SFPA.

Sessions begin at 6:00 PM and are free to attend.

A fun and original way to travel through stories and cultures.
