The Centenary of the Coronation of the Mare de Déu del Sofratge

Benidorm commemorates 100 years since the Coronation of its patron saint with a full program of cultural and religious events: exhibitions, concerts, floral displays, and traditional ceremonies that invite both locals and tourists to discover the city's deepest essence.

The Centenary of the Coronation of the Mare de Déu del Sofratge is a unique opportunity to experience Benidorm’s spiritual and cultural heritage. From January 21 to February 8, the old town becomes the epicenter of celebrations that blend music, popular devotion, open-air exhibitions, and deep-rooted local traditions.

Program Highlights:

🔹 Saturday, January 24

• 10:00 h: Sung Mass by Camerata Ars Cantica at Sant Jaume i Santa Anna.
• 10:30 h: Opening of the exhibition of the Virgin’s wardrobe in her chapel.
• 11:00 h: Unveiling of the commemorative floral tapestry on the church façade, with decorated streets reminiscent of 1926.
• Opening of the Photographic Exhibition in Plaça de Castelar — 20 backlit panels featuring historic and contemporary images of the patron saint, many donated by residents.

🔹 February 1–6:

• Centenary Septenary with participation from all of Benidorm’s parishes.
• February 1 at 12:00 h: Centenary Extraordinary Concert at Colci cinemas, performed by the Unión Musical de Benidorm, the Societat Musical l'Illa de Benidorm, and the Societat Musical La Nova de Benidorm.
• February 6 at 20:00 h: Prayer Vigil before the original image of the Virgin.

🔹 February 7 – Coronation Day

• 09:00 h: Opening of Sant Jaume i Santa Anna church for veneration.
• 10:00 h: Eucharist and presentation of children to the Patron Saint.
• 12:00 h: Angelus prayer.
• 17:00 h: Holy Rosary.
• 18:00 and 19:00 h: Eucharists followed by the Sabatina. At the end, a crown-shaped brooch will be offered as a symbol of popular devotion.

🔹 February 8 – Grand Closing Day

• 10:00 h: Aerial fireworks.
• 10:30 h: Procession of the Virgin from the parish to Plaça de SSMM Los Reyes de España, carried by the Mariners de la Mare de Déu and accompanied by the town’s three bands.
• 11:30 h: Thanksgiving Mass with choral and musical participation.
• 13:00 h: Return pilgrimage with a stop at the exact location of her coronation (corner of Alameda and Mayor), where a commemorative tile will be unveiled.
• 13:45 h: Final fireworks and singing of the National Anthem.
