Benidorm is joining the celebration of International Museum Day, held every year on 18 May, with a special programme designed to bring local history, art and heritage closer to residents and visitors.
The activities will begin on Saturday, 16 May at 12:30 pm at the Boca del Calvari Museum with a guided visit to the temporary exhibition ‘Serie Íbera’ by Alicante artist Sómnica Bernabeu. The artist herself will take part in the visit, offering attendees the chance to discover the details, inspiration and creative process behind this contemporary art collection inspired by the Iberian legacy of the Alicante coast.
On 18 May, coinciding with International Museum Day, the Boca del Calvari Museum will offer guided tours of its permanent archaeological collection. The visits will take place from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, in approximately 15-minute sessions for small groups of up to 15 people, allowing for a more personal and engaging experience. Those interested can register by email at visitatossal@benidorm.org .
The programme will continue on 19 May with the opening of the photography exhibition ‘Benidorm, somni vertical’ by local photographer Maria José Lozano, displayed in the city’s Urban Art Spaces. The exhibition brings together 50 images offering an artistic and contemporary view of Benidorm’s urban landscape and its distinctive vertical skyline. The first visit will take place that same day at 11:00 am, starting from the Ponent Urban Art Space.
With this programme, Benidorm offers a special opportunity to enjoy its heritage from a close, creative and accessible perspective, combining archaeology, contemporary art and urban photography in different cultural spaces across the city.
