Ruben Fuentes

Rubén was born and raised in Benidorm, and singing runs in the family. His mother and his aunt form the duo Las Hermanas Martínez and have toured the country with their songs, so one of his first memories is standing on the edge of the stage watching them perform. At the age of 7 he started singing saetas with his family, which are religious songs that are mainly sung during Easter, and he also started auditioning for different television singing programmes. When he was a teenager he and some family members set up a flamenco show and performed in different venues in the centre of Benidorm, but when he turned 18 he decided to take a chance in the city’s British area, where Benidorm’s main entertainment scene is, so he could grow as an artist. His first shows were a mix of flamenco and English songs, but he was soon spotted by his current manager who offered him to take part in a tribute act to the band One Direction.

Since then he’s been part of a group of artists in Benidorm, which he is very happy about because they’re all very supportive of each other. It’s their manager who organises different shows and offers Ruben and the others a spot in those that suit them best. He’s currently doing a tribute to Il Divo, as well as doing a tribute to Ricky Martin and a tribute to Enrique Iglesias, and performs in many different venues and hotels around Benidorm. Rubén reckons he has had many opportunities and has experienced very good things thanks to being a singer, and even though it isn’t always easy and feels a lot of pressure to nail every show, he enjoys it so much that it doesn’t feel like a job to him.
