If there’s a classic Mediterranean holiday treat, it’s pastissets de boniato. These delicious sweet pastries, crispy on the outside and with a soft, aromatic filling, are a staple of homemade baking. 🍠✨ Learn how to make them with this traditional recipe and impress everyone!
🥠 For the filling:
✔️ 1 kg of boiled or roasted sweet potatoes
✔️ 1 kg of sugar
✔️ 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon
✔️ Zest of 1 lemon 🍋
🍪 For the dough:
✔️ 1 cup of sugar
✔️ 1 cup of aguardiente (50º)
✔️ 1 ½ cups of oil
✔️ ½ cup of white pork lard
✔️ Flour (approximately 1 kg)
🔥 1. Prepare the filling
1️⃣ Peel and mash the boiled or roasted sweet potatoes.
2️⃣ In a pan, mix the mashed sweet potatoes with sugar, cinnamon, and lemon zest.
3️⃣ Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until a thick syrup forms (about 1 hour).
4️⃣ Remove from heat and let it cool.
🍞 2. Prepare the dough
1️⃣ In a saucepan over low heat, warm the lard, oil, aguardiente, and sugar, stirring continuously.
2️⃣ Before it starts boiling, gradually add the flour, mixing constantly, until a workable dough forms.
3️⃣ Remove from heat and let it rest near a heat source to keep it elastic while shaping.
🥟 3. Shape the pastissets
1️⃣ Roll out the dough with a rolling pin until as thin as possible.
2️⃣ Cut circles of about 6 cm in diameter.
3️⃣ Place a teaspoon of filling in half of each circle and fold it over to form a half-moon.
4️⃣ Seal the edges tightly and brush with beaten egg for a golden finish.
5️⃣ Sprinkle with sugar and ground cinnamon for extra flavor.
🔥 4. Baking and final touch
1️⃣ Preheat the oven to 170ºC (340ºF).
2️⃣ Bake the pastissets for about 30 minutes, until golden and crispy.
