The Castle Viewpoint, also known as the Balcony of the Mediterranean, is one of Benidorm’s most iconic spots. Located on the promontory that separates Levante and Poniente beaches, it offers spectacular panoramic views of the bay and the city.
During the 14th, 15th, and 16th centuries, this site was home to a fortress that protected the city from attacks by Algerian and Berber pirates. Over time, the castle was abandoned, and today, only a few remains of its walls can be seen on the rocks of the viewpoint.
The square where the fortress once stood, formerly known as Replaceta del Castell, still retains its historic essence and features four cannons, a reminder of its military past.
With its iconic white balustrade and checkerboard-patterned floor, this viewpoint has become a must-visit for both locals and tourists. From here, you can admire:
🔹 Benidorm Island, one of the most recognizable silhouettes on the horizon.
🔹 The cliffs of Serra Gelada, which shield the city from northern winds.
🔹 Breathtaking sunrises and sunsets, where the sky is painted in golden hues.
One of the most intriguing features of Replaceta del Castell is its Wind Rose, a structure made of granite and bronze that marks the main geographical points and displays native fauna species for each cardinal direction.
📍 Benidorm faces south, an uncommon orientation along the Mediterranean coast.
📍 Its strategic location allowed visual communication with watchtowers like Punta Cavall (in Serra Gelada) and Torre Aguiló (in La Vila Joiosa).
The viewpoint is just a few steps from Benidorm’s Old Town, where you can wander through cobbled streets, explore charming shops, and enjoy the local gastronomy.
💡 A must-visit spot where history, beauty, and culture merge with the Mediterranean.
