Benidorm Island Route

Benidorm Island: A Small Paradise for Snorkeling

Less than 2 miles from the port lies Benidorm Island, a true symbol of this coastline and the subject of mythical legends about its origin. For us, it is simply a small paradise where we can enjoy extraordinary marine life, with breathtaking views of the vibrant urban profile of Benidorm. 🏙️

🛥️ How to Get to the Island

To reach the island, we can take one of the water taxis that depart continuously from the port. In just a few minutes, we’ll be dropped off at the foot of the restaurant, practically the only building on the island. Right next to it, there is a rocky platform where we can leave our towel and gear up comfortably to enter the water. 🌊

🐟 Exploring the Seabed

The seabed is made up of hard rock, profusely covered with harmless brown and red algae. The recommended route for our snorkel journey is to follow the island’s profile towards the south, keeping the wall to our left. We’ll reach a striking stone arch, which acts like a window into the blue, inviting us to swim through it, as it is no more than -2 meters deep. 🌅

🐠 The Biodiversity of the Island

Along the way, we will see a gentle rocky slope, occasionally dotted with some rocks, and as we move away from the wall, the depth increases, revealing larger stones, some of which serve to secure the ropes used by the surface buoys. 🪸

The rocky platform hides numerous cracks and crevices, providing shelter for small crustaceans and fish like blennies. In the larger gaps, you might find a octopus hidden behind its peculiar stone and shell barricade. 🐙

The castanuelas are abundant, weaving curtains in constant motion, while at greater depths, schools of sargos and obladas dominate the scene, occasionally accompanied by the brief appearance of needlefish and some bream. 🐟

🌊 Finishing the Journey

Following the line of the buoys, the slope becomes steeper, eventually leading to a sandy bottom at around -9 meters, just outside the scope of our snorkel tour. However, this is a perfect area for scuba divers with autonomous gear, who explore these rich waters. 🤿

After reaching the arch, we can begin our return journey, still entertained by the biodiversity and the many beautiful sights that adorn this bright and spectacular route. 🌞
