The Ponoig, Gabriel Miró's sleeping lion, stands at an altitude of almost 1,200 metres and presides over the peaceful landscape of the Baronia de Polop, a picturesque municipality sheltered by the rugged, rocky, steep and rugged Sierra del Monte mountain range.
The village, with its whitewashed houses, is under the watchful eye of its castle, which has been the protagonist of many historical events since its origins and due to its strategic location.
Today, Polop is a haven of tranquillity away from the hustle and bustle of the coast.
