Benidorm Expands its Smoke-Free Spaces with Accessible Beaches and Children's Areas

The Benidorm City Council and the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) have signed an agreement to develop joint actions aimed at curbing smoking. This agreement includes the designation of several spaces as "smoke-free zones."

The three accessible beach points in Benidorm and the children's play areas in the urban park of El Moralet have been incorporated into the network of "smoke-free spaces" promoted by the AECC. This initiative adds to the efforts to fight smoking, which is responsible for approximately 60,000 deaths annually in Spain, according to the Ministry of Health.

The designated "smoke-free" points are:

  • Accessible beach area in Levante, located at the height of Murcia street.
  • Elche Park in Poniente Beach.
  • Avenida de Mont Benidorm in Poniente Beach.

It has been emphasized that, although the general recommendation is to avoid smoking in all beaches, these three points have a specific recommendation due to their special conditions and socio-health services.

The children's play areas in El Moralet are also included in this agreement, highlighting the importance of promoting healthy habits from childhood through education and awareness.

The AECC, with municipal support, will provide resources to signpost these "smoke-free spaces" and will carry out training, awareness, and smoking prevention activities. Services to help quit smoking will also be offered, among other initiatives.

In this way, Benidorm reaffirms its commitment to public health, offering healthier environments for both residents and visitors, and promoting a tobacco-free lifestyle in its most emblematic spaces.
